Northern Nevada will Honor First Inaugural National Vietnam Veterans Day in Ceremonies

(Carson City and Winnemucca, NV) There will be two ceremonies in northern Nevada to honor the first inaugural National Vietnam War Veterans Day. This national day was set aside in the Spring of 2017 to honor the men and women who served and sacrificed in one of the longest conflicts in United States history.

A wreath-laying ceremony will be held in Carson City on Saturday, March 31st at the Nevada Vietnam War Memorial in Mills Park at 5:00 p.m.

Earlier in the day, another wreath-laying ceremony will be held in Winnemucca at 10:00 a.m. at Veterans Park.

The Vietnam War left an indelible mark on the American psyche. Returning Veterans did not always receive respectful welcomes upon their arrival on American soil.

There were 58,000 killed, never to return. National Vietnam War Veterans Day recognizes the military service of these men and women who answered the call to service to their country when needed.

The National Day set aside is March 29th. It was on that date in 1973 when combat and combat support units withdrew from South Vietnam. Generations later, veterans of this time period are now gaining the respect that was not so freely given upon their return. The Vietnam War involved five U.S. Presidents crossing nearly two decades and impacting some 500,000 U.S. men and women who served their country.
