- Nevada Transition Assistance Program (NVTAP)
Throughout the month of June, our LGBTQ+ program has been actively engaged in targeted outreach efforts focused on the unique needs of veterans who identify as gender or sexually diverse. Our program has built strong relationships within the community across the State of Nevada.
We have participated in various Pride Month events, including Henderson Pride at Water Street Plaza, Southern Nevada Pride at Sunset Park in Las Vegas, and the Pahrump Proud 4th Annual Festival at the Pahrump Nugget Hotel and Casino. We are also grateful for the contributions of our Veteran Service Officer Brandi Matheny in Pahrump. She not only services all of Pahrump, but she continues to be a champion for our LGBTQ veterans!
Our community partner Michelle Keplar, the Veterans Health Administration's Northern Nevada LGBTQ+ Care Coordinator attended the Truckee Meadows 1st Pride Week and Rainbow Run.
Successful NDVS Hosted Event Highlight
The LGBTQ+ Program organized a successful event, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, at The Center in Las Vegas. This event, featuring a live cast by Frankies Favorite Obsession, drew more than 250 RSVPs in support of LGBTQ+ veterans. We had the opportunity to connect with veterans, provide immediate support services, and hear their courageous stories. Our partnerships with nonprofit organizations dedicated to celebrating the LGBTQ+ community, particularly veterans, have strengthened our program and set us apart as a leader nationwide.
