It is with sorrow that NDVS announced in June the unexpected loss of one of our own. Veterans Service Officer (VSO) Seth Flatley passed away at his Reno home last month. He had been with NDVS for nearly a decade.
Seth loved his job and helping veterans immensely. His knowledge in filing claims and appeals was amazing! He could recite any regulation that had to do with his job, which is why he became our “go-to-VSO” assisting with VSO training and providing answers anytime a colleague had a question.
Outside of work, Seth could tell you anything about the State of Nevada. He graduated of UNR with a Master of Arts in History and Bachelor of Arts (BA)History/Political Science Minor. He played on the UNR boxing team in the middle weight category. Seth’s favorite movie was The Big Lebowski, and even named his dog “the Dude” in honor of the movie’s main character. He was also the Green Bay Packers #1 fan.
Seth will be truly missed by the entire Veterans and Advocacy and Support Team. We will all miss our chats with him about work, movies, as well as all the history lessons he gave us.
Seth was the primary caregiver for his dad, who is a veteran. His brother, Colonel Josh Flatley is still serving in the U.S. Air Force.
In lieu of flowers, Seth’s family is requesting donations be made to the Nevada Humane Society in Seth’s memory by going here: https://nevadahumanesociety.org/donate/.
