Our NDVS family is mourning the loss of two veterans we consider one of our own, Peggy Randle and Mike Mader.
We lost Margaret J. Randle on July 10, 2022. Most of us knew her as Peggy. She was a passionate volunteer at the Southern Nevada State Veterans Home and the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City. Peggy was always there to step up and help out in service to her fellow veterans whenever and wherever she was needed. Peggy always volunteered to fill in when there was a shortage of volunteers or additional manpower was needed for special events.
At the time of her passing she chaired the Nevada Veterans Assistance League and the Independent Review Panel at the Southern Nevada State Veterans Home.
Her many accomplishments are too numerous to mention in this article, but her full and accomplished life included her service in the U.S. Navy as an operating room instrument nurse. She served on active duty from 1955 to 1957 and then with the Naval Reserve on independent duty at NAS Minneapolis from 1961 to 1968.
We will forever hold her in our hearts and remember her always. Our condolences go out to her friends and family.
We also lost another NDVS member recently. Michael “Mike” Mader passed away in Fallon on July 31st. Mike spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. His love of the military continued when he became a Veterans Services Officer for NDVS when the department was called the Nevada Office of Veterans Services. He continued serving veterans with his extensive involvement in the American Legion and Reno’s Kiwanis Club. Services will be held at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley on September 2, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.
Please keep Mike, along with his friends and family, in your thoughts and prayers.
