State Veteran Hiring Program

The Division of Human Resource Management administers the veteran hiring program which provides individual assistance to veterans by:

  • Identifying State positions and career opportunities throughout Nevada that match well with the veteran’s skills, education, and experience.
  • Answering questions about state employment, hiring processes, and advising and assisting veterans with state job applications.
  • Connecting veterans to other available resources and services
  • Additionally, the State offers the following employment preferences for veterans, certain surviving spouses, and members of the Nevada National Guard. Guardsmen and Reservists meet the State’s definition of being a veteran if they possess a DD214 or have served 6 continuous years or more in the guard or reserves.
  • Veteran applicants with a service-connected disability that meet minimum qualification requirements for a state position are guaranteed an opportunity to interview.
  • Of the total number of qualified applicants interviewed for a state position, at least 22% of the total number interviewed must be qualified veterans that do not have a service-connected disability.
  • Individuals that fall within the specified categories below will also receive additional preference points towards Training & Experience exams for the positions that require such exams. However, point categories cannot be combined and individuals can only receive points from the qualifying category that is the most beneficial to them.
