Veteran And Military Day at the Legislature (VAMDAL) 2019 a Huge Success!

Despite the forecast of cold and rain, almost 600 people gathered at the memorial wall behind the Carson City Capital building for the morning ceremony to Veteran and Military Day at the Legislature 2019. Director Kat Miller of Nevada Department of Veterans Services opened the ceremony, The Northern Nevada All Honor Guard/Color Guard posted the colors, and Shane Whitecloud – Outreach specialist with the Veterans Resource Center in Reno – Sang the National Anthem. State representatives, including Assembly Speaker Jason Frierson and Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro, made remarks before Governor Sisolak took to the mic, honoring the Veteran of the Month – Robert James Mort and the Veteran Supporter of the Month – The Home Depot Foundation. Governor Sisolak  also signed several proclamations, including naming March 29, 2019 Vietnam War Veterans Day – Honoring all Vietnam Era veterans.

After the morning ceremony, attendees were invited to make their way to the State Legislature, where the State Senate and State Assembly recognized Veteran and Military Day at the Legislature, asking all veteran and/or military present to stand and receive applause.

Lunch was provided out on the Legislative mall grounds – Pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, and cornbread, provided by CoCoMoes in Gardnerville, out of a Military Kitchen Trailer provided and run by the Nevada Army National Guard.

Exhibitors from various service organizations, as well as Veterans Benefits Administration and other state and federal partners filled the legislative mall, informing attendees of the benefits and services they may be eligible for.

We want to thank: The United Veterans Legislative Council for all that you do for the veteran and military of Nevada on the Legislative level; Camelot Party Rentals for the tables, chairs, and other items; Quick Space for providing the portable restrooms; Western Nevada Supply for providing the lunch tent (that ended up being a shade tent rather than a rain tent as expected); as well as, of course, the veteran and military community of Nevada. Regardless of the expected poor weather, you all showed up in force. Thank you for all that YOU do for your fellow veteran and service member. This wouldn’t be possible without you.
