RENO, Nev. (KOLO) For the first time, Army sergean Leif Apag is a homeowner thanks to the Northern Nevada Chapter of the Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals (VAREP). 
 
“I’m just so overwhelmed right now with joy,” Apag said. “This is just such a big blessing for me and my family.” 
 
For the past seven months, volunteers with the VAREP, Home Depot, and several other organizations have turned a rundown house into a home. Friday, they turned the keys over to Apag and his family. 
 
“It has been kinda of hard for me, and my wife, and my daughter, and to get this break words cannot explain,” Apag said. “We’re definitely going to make the best of this situation and let this be a happy and healthy place for my family.” 
 
This is the first home in Reno the VAREP has renovated for a veteran. After an open application process, Apag and his family were chosen because of his story.
