Veteran Suicide Awareness Takes to the Mountains

A team of elite athletes and Navy SEAL veterans will undertake an extraordinary challenge on August 22 to combat veteran suicide: a 220-mile, 22-lb ruck run with 40,000+ feet of elevation gain across the Sierra Nevada mountains, including a full loop around Lake Tahoe’s iconic Rim Trail. 

The 220-mile route will cover 20 of the region’s mountain summits, with each participant carrying a 22-pound pack, symbolizing the 22 veterans who die by suicide every day. 

“This isn’t just a race,” says 3Bravo Founder Liam Cogan, a former Navy SEAL. “It’s a call to action. We’re building trust, providing direct solutions, and proving that no one has to navigate their post-service journey alone.” 

3Bravo exists to support service members before, during, and after military service by addressing large-scale systemic issues and strengthening underutilized, mission-critical resources like Veteran Services Officers (VSOs). Their goal is to train a new pipeline of high-performing, veteran-trusted VSOs who simplify the often-broken VA benefits system and help eliminate financial distress, the second-leading cause of veteran suicide. 

All donations raised through the 20 Mountain 220 will go directly toward combating veteran suicide through 3Bravo’s established programs, emphasizing compassion, individualized care, and expert benefit navigation.
