Veterans Brain Trust Launches

The Las Vegas Mayor’s Challenge is sailing ahead with the Veterans Brain Trust Initiative. The group met last month to launch this new initiative with the goal of having the brain trust serve as the foundation to improve and create opportunities for Nevada’s veteran and military communities.

This effort supports actionable and strategic goals through the Veterans Services Initiative and the Las Vegas Mayor’s Challenge to Prevent Suicide among Services Members, Veterans, and their families.

This first meeting brought together many key players. They include the Southern Nevada Veterans Advocacy Council, VA Southern Nevada, NAMI, Wounded Warrior Project, the NV Office of Suicide Prevention, Veterans Treatment Court, NV Veterans Association, Congressman Horsford’s office, MVP, Concerned Vets of America, NDVS, and the City of Las Vegas. Members are identifying needs and gaps in services, as well as work on the top goals of the initiative. These topics help inform the public about our veteran suicide prevention efforts in order to reduce risk factors and increase protective factors community-wide.

If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, call the Veterans Crisis Line at 800-273-8255 and Press 1.
