(Reno, NV) – The Veterans Guest House in Reno provides a temporary “home” to military members, veterans and their families at a time they need it most; when a loved one is sick and needs care. The non-profit provides a safe, clean place to stay overnight when a veteran, military member or immediate family member is undergoing treatment at a medical facility in the Reno-Sparks area.  
 
According to the Guest House, the typical guest resides at least 35 miles away. They can be in the military or a veteran, a family member of a veteran who is hospitalized or an immediate family member of veteran receiving medical care. The Guest House will soon be able to serve even more families. 
 
Over the last two decades, the Guest House has served thousands and filled a tremendous need. The Guest House is expanding from 17 to 33 beds. The construction of a new 12,000 square foot building is located right next to the current home on Locust Street. The project is still on schedule with completion set for Spring 2018. 
 
The Guest House has partnered with the Nevada Military Support Alliance to raise $1 million dollars. The total goal is to raise $6 million, of which $4 million will be used for construction and $2 million will be used to establish an endowment to cover a portion of the ongoing annual operations and maintenance costs. 
 
Members of the non-profit’s Board of Directors acknowledge without the expansion, they will have to turn people away, which they never want to do. Scott Bensing, Chairman of the Nevada Military Support Alliance said, “Following our successful partnership in the funding and construction of the Fisher House in southern Nevada, the Veterans Guest House in Reno is a natural partner.” The Fisher House Foundation plays a similar role in southern Nevada offering a network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost when a loved one is receiving treatment 
 
Noreen Leary, the Veterans Guest House CEO, notes, “The Veterans Guest House does not receive any government funding. Private donations are what allow us to have the ‘home away from home’ that we have provided our veterans for over 20 years. Our partnership with the Nevada Military Support Alliance will make it possible for us to grow and better serve our veterans and their families for years to come.”
