Shortly after the conclusion of the Vietnam War Commemoration ceremony Friday at the Silverado Casino in Fernley, U.S. Navy veteran Marvin Mattson took a moment to reflect on the experience as well as the nearly fifty years that have passed since the far-away conflict changed his life.
“This was a wonderful event, so different than when we came back from the war and no one liked us,” said Mattson, who served in the Navy from 1969 to 1973 as a petty officer second class. “This event was really well put together, and it was nice being around guys you went there with and came back with. We got to talk about the war without all the gruesome details, and relive the good times.”
