- Nevada Transition Assistance Program (NVTAP)
The NDVS program, Veterans in Care (VIC) kicked up the activity in March with NDVS hosting three VIC ceremonies at three different senior living/assisted care facilities.
The program supports aging veterans in three ways. First, the ceremonies help connect these veterans to their earned benefits by offering immediate access to a Veterans Service Officer. Next, the ceremonies honor and recognize these veterans to let them know their service and sacrifice will always be remembered. Finally, VIC offers military culture training and education to facility staff members so they understand the importance of the military experience to aging veterans and how this experience may affect aging veterans, especially those with cognitive impairments.
In all, the three VIC ceremonies provided recognition and support to a total of 75 veterans with VIC ceremonies taking place at Brookdale Vista Senior Living and Kiley Ranch Senior Living in the Reno/Sparks area. A third VIC ceremony was held in Las Vegas at Heritage Springs Assisted Living and Memory Care.
A special thanks goes to everyone who provided support including the American Legion Post 76 for providing a Color Guard as well as the Heritage Springs Activities Director, Carol Ligayo and the Executive Director of Heritage Springs, Monica Da La Torre.
