Al Camp Named Veteran of the Month and the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 730 Service Office Named Veteran Supporter of the Month – January 2021

We congratulate Al Camp for being named Veteran of the Month (VOM) and the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 730 Service Office for being recognized as Veteran Supporter for the Month (VSM) of January.

Camp is a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer, who has been a committed advocate and volunteer to the veteran community. Camp has been an active member of the Fleet Reserve Association and the American Legion where he has held many leadership roles. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked as a Financial Aid Advisor with Western Nevada College; he later transitioned to working for the Nevada Department of Veteran Services (NDVS) as a Veterans Service Officer  (VSO)for several years. Although he ended up retired from NDVS, he has continued to be an advocate for veterans and has committed himself to serving the residents of the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home as their dedicated service officer.

Camp’s community involvement is not only limited to supporting the veteran community. In the years since his retirement from the Navy, he also has been a supporter of the active duty community where he has worked to ensure that service members have the information needed to successfully transition into civilian life. He has also been involved with supporting youth programs throughout northern Nevada like the Boy Scouts, Boys State, and Oratorical Contests.

The Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 730 Service Office is comprised of 11 volunteers who work together to help veterans, widows, and their dependents with veteran affairs, records requests, claims, and letters. The office also works to support the Vietnam Veterans of America chapters and Student Veterans of the Nevada State College. Their office has also worked to support currently serving military members with their pre-discharge requirements and partners with the Nevada Army National Guard Family Assistance Program to ensure that the service men and women have the resources they need. Although the office only opened in 2018, it has already assisted over 3,600 veterans and dependents.

Due to the risk of coronavirus exposure, special ceremonies to honor and recognize the VOM and VSM are postponed until it is safe to resume them once again.
