Wreaths Across America

By: Fred Wagar

Every year, Wreaths Across America events are held throughout the nation including at our own State Veteran Memorial Cemeteries thanks to the hard work of organizations and volunteers from across Nevada.

As everyone knows by now, these organizations had to change the procedures this year in order to protect all attendees during the COVID-19 pandemic to include social distancing and face coverings in place.

Unfortunately, neither cemetery held the opening ceremony in order to keep crowds from gathering. Those who purchased wreaths were scheduled by hour throughout the day in order to ensure those who bought wreaths to be placed on a specific grave could do so without having a larger gathering. Attendance was limited t0 50 people per group of volunteers.

Numerous participants expressed their appreciation to the organizers for the orderly and safe manner the Wreaths Across America event was held.
