Happy 250th Anniversary U.S. Armed Forces!

This year marks several important anniversaries for the military and America.

This month, May 8, 2025, was the anniversary of V-E Day, marking the end of WWII in Europe! The year 2025 marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Armed Forces celebrating the founding of the Army, Navy and Marines.

On June 13, there is an Army Birthday Celebration planned at the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home at 2:00 p.m. The following day, June 14, a huge Army Gala is planned at the National Automobile Museum in Reno from 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

For more details and tickets go HERE. This event is being hosted by the William C. Westmoreland Chapter of the Association of the United States Army in Northern Nevada in partnership with various community organizations.

Also, the annual Flag Day ceremony in Carson City is set for Saturday, June 14 at 10:00 a.m. The event will take place on the Capitol Grounds.

Also, this year, the Nevada State Archives is planning to open a small exhibit on the Friday before Flag Day to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Armed Forces. The exhibit will remain in place until sometime after Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2025.

The exhibit will be titled, “All For Our Country,” and will focus on Nevadans who served in the military during the Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I, and World War II. (The State Archives has historical documents and photos of service members from these eras.)

The State Archives participates in the Flag Day celebration on the Capitol Grounds every year. They usually bring the first known 36-star flag to the ceremony and invite attendees to visit the archives (adjacent to the location of the ceremony) following the ceremony.
