Elko National Cemetery Construction Moves Forward


Information provided by the VA National Cemetery Administration.  

At a Glance:  

  • Anticipated opening in Fall 2026 
  • Stonework on the entrance wall is underway – it is halfway complete. 
  • The underlayment of the roof is complete on the Public Information Center/restroom building. The installation of the metal roof is in progress. 
  • Construction is underway on the columbarium court and Memorial Wall. 
  • In the Flag Assembly Area, the forms have been placed for the cemetery’s flagpole, the foundation for the wall that will display seals of the uniformed service branches has been poured, and ledge section of the seals wall has been poured. 
  • A chain link fence has been installed along the southern property boundary and a portion of eastern property boundary. 

Upcoming Construction Activities 

As the weather allows, the following activities will be performed: 

  • Earthwork around the cemetery. 
  • Stonework in the Flag Assembly Area, Columbarium and Memorial Wall. 
  • Continued work on the Public Information Center/restroom building and burial sections. 

Project Details 

  • Elko National Cemetery spans 15.37 acres. It will accommodate casket burials, in-ground cremation burials, and urn placements in columbarium niches. The cemetery will be constructed in multiple phases, with each phase providing 15 years of burial service. 
  • Phase 1 will include 1,045 gravesites: 
  • Casketed gravesites: 364 
  • In-ground cremation burials: 211 gravesites 
  • Columbarium niches: 470 niches 
  • Other Phase One project details includes a committal shelter, restroom, a memorial wall, flagpoles, roads, and other infrastructure.
