Message from the Director

As we move into the heart of the spring and summer season, I want to take a moment to reflect on the strength of Nevada’s veteran community and share several important upcoming opportunities for remembrance, connection, and celebration!

First, I extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who participated in our Nevada Veterans Legislative Symposia in Elko, Reno, and Las Vegas as well as the 2026 Women Veterans Conference. These events brought together veterans from across our state to share their experiences, voice their concerns, and strengthen the bonds of community and sisterhood. Your engagement helps guide our work and ensures that veterans remain at the center of every conversation.

I also want to extend my congratulations to Toni Washington, Vice President of Women Veterans of Nevada, who was selected as the Nevada Woman Veteran of the Year. This well-deserved recognition reflects her deep passion and unwavering commitment to supporting and uplifting women veterans across our state.

We now turn to Memorial Day, observed on May 25, a sacred tie for our nation to honor those who gave their lives in service. I invite you to join us at the Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemeteries in Fernley and Boulder City as we remember and pay tribute to our fallen heroes. Ceremonies will be held at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 11:00 a.m., and at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel. The annual Flag In, where we place American flags at each gravesite in honor of those we have lost, will take place on Saturday, May 23, beginning at 7:00 a.m. in the south and 8:30 a.m. in the north.

Looking ahead, I am also pleased to invite you to Day of Gratitude, taking place on Saturday, June 6, from Noon to 4:00 p.m. at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. This extraordinary event is dedicated to honoring those who have served, those currently serving, and the families who stand beside them. This year’s program will include a patriotic awards ceremony honoring WWII veterans during the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, along with live music, entertainment, life-changing support services, and gratitude gifts. It will be a celebration and appreciation you will not want to miss.

Registration is required for this event. I encourage you to sign up early. Register HERE. NDVS will be present in full force, ready to connect with and servs our veteran community!

As always, thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your continued commitment to one another. It is an honor to serve you.
