safeTALK Suicide Prevention Training is Back

By: Kim Donohue, Suicide Prevention Program Manager

Suicide is an ongoing public health concern. Our health systems and communities are working together to reduce suicide rates and you can play a role in suicide prevention efforts. Taking a suicide prevention training class will help you understand the underlying risk factors for suicide and how you can help someone who might be struggling with suicidal thoughts and get them connected to the services they may need. safeTALK is a suicide prevention training being offered free of charge through the Nevada Office of Suicide Prevention.

The training schedule and availability are as follows:

IT’S OK NOT TO BE OK

Meanwhile, if you or someone you know is struggling, it is important to remember, IT’S OK, TO NOT BE OK, BUT TO ASK FOR HELP! Reach out and call, text, email, FaceTime, grab a cup of coffee or enjoy one together over a ZOOM chat. The purpose is to truly connect by asking, “How are you doing Really?” Sometimes, starting a conversation and asking that question followed by listening and being there for one another, is one simple gesture that can make the world of difference in someone’s day, even life!

NEW RESOURCES
There are new suicide prevention resources available. Check out two new apps released by the VA: How We R.E.A.C.H. Coaching Tool (See our story in this newsletter on this!) and the COVID Coach App in Spanish. They are great resources to have as you never know when you might need it!
