Rebuilding Together is a resource for low-income disabled
Veterans to assist with making handicapped home modifications and critical repairs, using licensed contractors. Critical repairs include:
- Roofing
- Heating
- Air conditioning
- Water heater
- Plumbing systems.
There is additional assistance to address smaller, but necessary repairs called, The Safe at Home Program. Repairs are completed in-house by program staff. When one of these repairs is made, staff additionally performs a 25-point Safe and Healthy Priorities Assessment on the home. This assessment helps identify any additional needed repairs or installs to return the home to a safe and healthy standard. These repairs include:
- Ramps
- Grab bars
- Smoke detectors
- CO detectors
- Fire extinguishers
- Bathroom modifications
- Replacing old carpet with hard flooring
- Door repair and installation
- ADA accessibility modifications
- Minor structural changes that provide accessibility
