New Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program Named after PFC Nick Crombie

The new Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program is being named after PFC David “Nick" Crombie.

Nick Crombie, a U.S. Army Soldier and Nevada resident, was killed in action on 7 June 2006, in Ramadi, Iraq. He and 32-year-old First Lieutenant Scott M. Love from Knoxville, Tennessee were killed when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee.

A week before his death, his mother, Jen Laybourne told the Washington Post he called home to say, “Mom, I saved an Iraqi soldier today – it was so cool. I put my training to effect; I saved someone. I’m scared, but it’s so great doing this.” His brother, Dan Crombie, explained the Iraqi soldier was going to bleed to death and Nick saved the soldier’s life.

Crombie’s family said he joined the Army after attending Northern Arizona University. The Winnemucca resident was 19 years old and was serving as a combat medic assigned to the 2nd Battalion6th Infantry Regimentin Baumholder, Germany.  Crombie is buried in the Arlington National Cemetery.
