After months of coordination in the background, the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home recently had the pleasure to play host for a reunion of the 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. For many of the Marines and Corpsman of the unit, it was the first time they had seen each other since their combat deployment to Afghanistan in 2010. While at the home, they had a chance to tour the facility and talk with some of the Marines veterans who served in Vietnam and previous wars.
This wonderful event was impactful for both generations of veterans as it allowed each to learn of the hardships, triumphs, and similarities of their experiences. This reunion of 50 veterans was inspiring to see as many traveled from great distances, some as far as the United Kingdom for a chance to spend time together. For the residents of the home, it was a truly unique experience allowing them to see that the current generation is still willing to heed the call and defend the nation in any time and place. The department is proud to have been able to support this unique opportunity.
