Big Day Ahead for Crombie Academy Students


Six students who have completed their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training through the Crombie Academy are set to graduate on February 2, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. Southern Nevada State Veterans Home.  

The students are Lalyn Himer, Destiny Hicks, Denise Lynch, Hafsatu Kamara, Ashley McQuistion, and Diana Zhang.  

The Crombie Academy is named in honor of Winnemucca resident and U.S. Medic, PFC David “Nick” Crombie, who was killed in action on June 7, 2006 in Ramadi, Iraq when an IED detonated near his Humvee.  

The Crombie Academy is a workforce development program that offers an introductionto basic nursing skills,nursing assistant duties and responsibilities, as well as anunderstanding of veteran culture in an acute and long-term care setting at SNSVH.    

The 4-week (120) hours of training includes 40 hours of classroom instruction, 40 hours of laboratory practice and 40 hours of supervised clinical instruction delivered on-site at SNSVH.  Each 4-week session(30 hours per week) will have a maximum of 15 students. 

The training prepares graduates for the CNA State Board of Nursing Examination. Participants who pass  the Certification Exam will be provided a front-line opportunity to apply for CNA positions within SNSVH. For more information, eligibility, and application, go HERE
