Robert Fain Veteran of the Month January 2013

The Nevada Office of Veterans Services (NOVS) presented the first Veteran of the Month award for 2013 to Robert Fain of Las Vegas. The presentation was made during the Veterans Legislative Summit in Tonopah on Saturday, January 12.

“Mr. Fain has volunteered for many organizations accumulating over 5,000 hours of service with the Veterans Administration Volunteer Services alone since 2006 and represents the ongoing commitment of service by veterans throughout our state,” said Executive Director Caleb Cage. “On behalf of Governor Brian Sandoval, it’s an honor to recognize Mr. Fain as he selflessly represents the veteran community and our state through his donation of time to help others.”

A devoted volunteer, Mr. Fain serves on numerous committees: Nevada Veterans Assistance League for the Nevada State Veterans Home, Volunteer Committee Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Nevada Veterans Foundation Member, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom Welcome Home Committee, and an Adjutant and Charter member of the Catholic War Veterans (CWV) USA, Post 1947. He also works with Nevada’s federal representatives serving on Veterans Advisory Boards for Senators Harry Reid and Dean Heller as well as serving on Veteran Review Boards for Congressman Joe Heck and Congresswoman Shelly Berkley.

“You would have to describe Mr. Fain as more of a relentless volunteer as he addresses veterans issues and needs on many different levels,” said Deputy Executive Director, Kat Miller. “His service extends beyond serving with committees to organizing clothing drives and other efforts. He is a one man volunteer force.”

The Veteran of the Month program is managed by the Nevada Office of Veterans Services under the direction of Executive Director Caleb Cage. “Board members of the Veterans Services Commission review nominations and choose a recipient during quarterly meetings for the following three month period,” stated Cage.  “Our office is very proud to staff this project on behalf of Governor Sandoval.” The public is invited to submit nominees for consideration by the Veterans Services Commission. Guidelines and a nomination application can be downloaded from the NOVS website at www.veterans.nv.gov and sent to the NOVS office in Reno. Candidates for the next quarter will be reviewed for their volunteer service and recipients will be chosen at the next Veterans Services Commission meeting in March 2013.
