Dear Veterans, Supporters and Partners,
We have a number of upcoming events for veterans and veteran advocates coming up in the next several weeks you are not going to want to miss!
One of the biggest is Veterans and Military Day at the Legislature (VAMDAL) in Carson City. This year it is slated for March 20, 2019. The day-long event begins at 8:00 AM with coffee and networking in front of the Veterans Memorial behind the Capitol Building. At 9:00 AM, the day will kick off with an opening ceremony featuring Governor Sisolak and the Majority Leaders from the Assembly and Senate. The Nevada National Guard will provide static military displays and host the Color Guard for the morning ceremony!
During VAMDAL just before noon, the United Veterans Legislative Council will pair veterans with lawmakers in both the Assembly and Senate where each veteran is introduced on both floors. The pairing is full of pageantry and provides recognition and awareness about veterans and the importance of their service. This year we can expect lawmakers to pass resolutions in honor of our Nevada heroes. To be paired with a legislator, contact Mitch Roach at 702-690-6145 or Mitch.roach@aol.com
We also host a free lunch from noon until 1:00 PM on the Capitol Grounds. We hope you will be able to join us!

On April 6-7 at Harrah’s in Reno, the Nevada Department of Veterans Services will host another free, two-day workshop to set you on the path to becoming a Nevada Veterans Advocate (NVA)! An NVA is a person who helps provide information about earned benefits, resources, programs and more to active military members, guard/reserve members, and veterans as well as their families.
Finally, I wanted to thank everyone who participated in the 2019 Veterans Legislative Summit last month. Our Nevada lawmakers; specifically Senators Joe Hardy and Julia Ratti as well as Assembly members Chris Edwards, Jim Wheeler and Teresa Benitez-Thompson were gracious to attend and provide key information to participants. Keith Hightower with the Governor’s Office also deserves thanks and praise.
As always, our partner, the United Veterans Legislative Council, with Tony Yarbrough at the helm, helped made this event a success. The work and dedication of the UVLC, on behalf of veterans, is to be commended.
If you were unable to attend one of the Summits, you may track and learn about proposed legislation, important to veterans and their families, by clicking here: https://veterans.nv.gov/80th-legislature/
I look forward to your continued participation in this year’s Legislative Session and our upcoming events!
Respectfully,
Kat Miller
Director
