(Las Vegas, NV) Governor Brian Sandoval and the Nevada Department of Veterans Services are pleased to announce Daniel T. Peterson, Chief Warrant Officer 5, United States Army (Retired), was named as the Veteran of the Month in July 2017. He received the honor and recognition in a ceremony held in Las Vegas on July 26, 2017. 
 
Peterson served from October 1969 until June 1992 as a 152FF AH-64 helicopter pilot. During his service, Chief Peterson earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters (OLC), Air Medal – 27th Award, Air Medal with “V” Device, Army Commendation Medal 2nd OLC, Army Achievement Medal 2nd OLC, Purple Heart, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Service Stars, Valorous Unit Award, Overseas Service Ribbon with number 1, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal and Master Army Aviator Badge. 
 
Chief Peterson currently serves as Commander of the Henderson Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He is also a member of the Henderson Vietnam Veterans of America. 
 
He is actively involved as a volunteer within the city of Henderson and was the primary catalyst behind Henderson being named a Purple Heart City. In addition to his duties as Commander of his MOPH Chapter, he coordinates activities with the Commander of the Junior ROTC at Basic High School in Henderson. 
 
Chief Peterson also takes the time to ensure he attends as many Unaccompanied Veterans Burial Ceremonies as possible at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
