Thank you to everyone who turned out to support the “Farewell/Relocation” Ceremony for the Nevada State Veterans Memorial in Las Vegas on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the Grant Sawyer Building! It was an amazing show of respect and honor to the memorial that means so much to so many ranging from the veterans’ community as well as so many others who attended. I’m very appreciative for the support and partnerships from our Governor, Lt. Governor, elected leaders, city of Las Vegas leaders, veterans’ groups, nonprofits and too many others to list here.
The memorial will now go into storage for safe keeping before placement at its new home. The city of Las Vegas is preparing an area at Thunderbird Family Sports Complex in Centennial Hills for the memorial, and we anticipate big plans and announcements ahead. We will be sure to keep you informed along the way!
Since the memorial will no longer be available to host the annual NDVS Veterans Day ceremony this year, we are planning to host the event at the Southern Nevada State Veterans Home in Boulder City. We hope you will save the date, Monday, November 11, 2024. There are other events planned at the home on that day so we will nail down a time in the afternoon within the next few weeks and make sure to share that information.
In closing, his month has been dedicated nationally as Suicide Prevention Month to raise awareness and provide education about this important topic. I hope you will take the time to read more about our efforts in this newsletter as well as participate in the trainings made available through the Nevada Office of Suicide Prevention and other partners.
I greatly appreciate your continued support and thank you for your support of our veterans, military members, and their families.
Respectfully,
Mary Devine
NDVS Director
