Dear Friends, Veteran Advocates and Supporters,
Memorial Day, the annual day of recognition and honor, falls on Monday, May 26, 2025. Governor Lombardo will be attending the 11:00 a.m. ceremony at our Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley. Another ceremony is also planned at our Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City beginning at 1:00 p.m. Don’t forget Flag-In on Saturday, May 24th, at both cemeteries starting at 7:00 a.m. in Boulder City and 8:30 a.m. in Fernley with the Special Forces Ceremony occurring on Sunday, May 25th in the south at 10:00 a.m.
We hope you’re able to attend one of the Memorial Day ceremonies or events this year. If not, I hope you’re able to set aside time to remember the sacrifices of those who have gone before us. Also, keep the men and women who are currently serving in your thoughts and prayers to ask for their protection and safety.
I want to personally thank everyone who turned out and participated in a series of Veterans Community Roundtable events in Las Vegas, Mesquite and Pahrump. This series of NDVS-hosted events provided veterans, military members, and their families with the opportunity to meet with me and our executive leadership team. We learned a lot about the issues and concerns that were top of the mind of participants. We are planning a follow-up in July. There is more information about the roundtable events in this newsletter!
We are wrapping up National Military Appreciation Month, which is a time to honor and thank the men and women who are serving or have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. This year, thanks to the members of the American Legion Post 30 in Sparks, with Ron Miranda and others leading the charge, the celebration of Armed Forces Day was recognized differently in Nevada this year. Ron and the others sought to make Armed Forces Day a week-long tribute in Nevada. As a result, Governor Lombardo signed a proclamation declaring the week of May 12 through May 18, 2025, as U.S. Armed Forces Week in Nevada! Ron and the AL Post 30 members are to be congratulated!
Finally, please know I’m grateful and blessed for the continued support of Nevada’s veteran community and I hope to see you at an upcoming veteran event soon!
Warmest regards,
Colonel Mary Devine
