Free Workshop to Become a Nevada Veterans Advocate

(Reno, NV) – More than 100 people have signed up to attend a free, two-day workshop that will set them on the path to becoming a Nevada Veterans Advocate (NVA). What is an NVA? Simply put it’s someone who knows how to connect a veteran, veteran’s family member or military member to benefits and services earned through military service. The course will help introduce, train and update those interested in becoming an NVA.

The Nevada Department of Veterans Services is hosting the event on April 6-7, 2019 at Harrah’s Reno, 219 North Center Street in downtown Reno. Registration is still available at the door on Saturday, April 6th beginning at 7:00 AM. The program runs from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM each day. There will be complimentary coffee and snacks each day with a break for lunch.

Those who receive an NVA certificate will have opportunities to volunteer at community events throughout the year. NVA’s provide information on benefits, resources and programs. They also connect veterans, military members or their families to Veteran Service Officers, who in turn, help veteran and military members connect to earned benefits by filing claims or appeals.

Please note parking at Harrah’s multi-story structure will be free, but space may be limited due to a Reno Marathon taking place on the morning of Saturday, April 7th.
