The Veterans in Care Program is Back

NDVS was able to bring back the Veterans in Care Program this past week with three ceremonies, two in Mesquite and one in Las Vegas. Veterans in Care ceremonies take place in community-based care facilities, like nursing homes and assisted living facilities, throughout the State with three components: benefit connection, service recognition, and veteran culture education. Benefit connection is important for helping veterans receive the benefits and services they earned during their service in the military. A Veterans Service Officer is present to explain the types of benefits available as well as start claims for those eligible. Service connection is achieved through the presentation of certificates, pins, and small American flags to thank the veterans for their service and continued support. Lastly, veteran culture education is important for facility employees that may not understand how veterans’ military service affects the aging process.

Last week, 18 veterans were recognized across three facilities: Highland Manor of Mesquite, Mesa Valley Estates of Mesquite, and the Elderly Aristocrat Family Style Assisted Living of Las Vegas both in addition to recognizing veterans, 25 veteran spouses were honored. NDVS is looking forward to bringing this program back to community-based care facilities and the veterans living there. This program is an opportunity to bring excitement, veteran culture, and a celebration back after COVID-19.
