Veterans, Veterinarians And … CorVETTES!

by Chuck N. Baker

(Dateline, United States) — It seems that three major domestic groups have names revolving around the suffix “vets” — military veterans, doctors who treat animals (veterinarians), and classic automobile owners who are devoted to their Corvettes. There may be on occasion some confusion when all are used simultaneously in a single conversation.

But not to worry, the names get sorted out here. And while helping out the National Guard Education Foundation (NGEF), veterans and veterinarians alike also have the chance to win one of several classic Corvettes! The NGEF has a mission to educate the public and foster awareness about the myriad contributions of the National Guard of the United States. It tells the story of the Guard and highlights its roles in the birth and growth of the nation. As a certified 501(c) (3) organization, donations to the foundation are tax deductible, and winning a Corvette may be possible.

The opportunity to own one of the classic automobiles, known as both the “Lost Corvettes Giveaway” and the “Corvette Heroes Sweepstakes,” is designed to provide funds for the NGEF. The assemblage of the rare cars is often referred to as the Peter Max Collection. Max, a renowned pop artist, collected the cars from each year they were manufactured — 1953 to 1989. The collection totaled 36 altogether. The event producers say that Max had planned to use them as canvases for a series of paintings, but never pursued the project. Instead, the cars sat in various parking garages in and around New York City. Over the years they had fallen into disrepair, but a series of business partners purchased the collection and now say they have “brought them back to life” with the goal of offering them in a sweepstakes, with proceeds going to the National Guard Education Foundation. The sweepstakes has been planned in two sections. The first one, with a September 2020 deadline to purchase tickets, has passed, and 10 of the cars will be awarded to winners in the middle of this month. But hope springs eternal. The deadline for purchasing tickets for the second phase is March 2, 2021, with winners selected on or about March 31, 2021. The sweepstakes organizers report that the National Guard is the only U.S. military service that handles both domestic and international missions though a state-federal partnership. The Army and Air National Guard is comprised of nearly 470,000 members.

Here’s how to enter, and it can be free: To begin, if anyone wants to purchase sweepstakes tickets, the cost is a mere $3 each, with proceeds going to a worthy cause — the Guard Foundation. But according to the published rules, “No purchase, contribution, donation or payment is necessary and making one will not increase your chances of winning,” and for those who do enter, the event is void where prohibited. Participants who donate should check with their tax professionals as to whether the $3 is tax deductible. As always in charitable sweepstakes, there are several other details, rules and regulations. That brings up a last piece of unsolicited advice — whenever one enters any sweepstakes, it may not be a bad idea idea to consider “vetting” the situation.
