Message from the Director – January 2021

To my fellow veterans, families, and supporters:

Happy New Year!

The best news of 2021 is the COVID-19 vaccine and the beginning of the end to this terrible pandemic. In December, the Southern Nevada State Veterans Homes, staff and residents received the first dose of the vaccine; at the Northern State Veterans Home it will be rolled out on January 9th. Once the second dose has been administered our residents and staff we will all rest easier.

As you can see the Veterans Voice newsletter has been updated to be more user-friendly. We are always open to suggestions for continuous improvement – for any and all NDVS programs and offerings. Everything we do is to assist veterans and their families, so if there’s a better or more efficient way for us to reach you, please let us know.

On Wednesday January 13, NDVS is holding a free Discharge Upgrade webinar from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. as part of the continuation of our virtual, “In the Know” veterans benefit information series. Register here.

With the 2021 Nevada Legislative Session starting February 1, we are working with the United Veteran Legislative Council to help educate Veterans and their supporters how they can become involved in the legislative process. Please register for the 2021 Nevada Veterans Legislative Summit on Tues., Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. We will keep you posted about proposed legislation as we learn of it.

In closing, while I am very happy about the COVID-19 vaccine, none of us can let our guard down until we have beaten this thing. I, along with our entire team, ask for your support to contain the community spread of COVID-19 by wearing a face covering and practicing social distancing. We thank you for continuing to protect the most vulnerable among us in 2021.

Respectfully,

Kat
