Allegiant Airlines Veteran Honors

When flying with Allegiant Airlines, veterans and their spouses are offered the following:

  • Up to three (3) pieces of checked baggage free. Each bag must weigh under 40 lbs.
  • No charge for over-sized checked baggage.
  • One (1) carry-on bag within Allegiant size limits free.
  • Free boarding pass printing at the airport.
  • Free seat assignments, pending availability.
  • Up to one (1) pet in cabin free.

To qualify: 

United States military veterans and their spouses must show proof of

  • Must show valid credentials.
  • Veterans must show one (1) form of valid military identification, including:
    • A State Driver’s License which displays a logo or code that denotes military service
    • A Veteran ID Card
    • DD Form 214
  • Dependents must show a Military Dependent ID Card
  • Please note: Dependents do not have to travel with the active military personnel.

Beneficiary Travel (BT)

The Beneficiary Travel program provides eligible veterans and other beneficiaries mileage reimbursement, common carrier (plane, train, taxi, light rail, etc.), or when medically indicated, “special mode" (ambulance, wheelchair van) transport for travel t and from VA health care, or VA authorized non-VA health care for which the veteran is eligible.

Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Transportation Network

The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Transportation Network System for Southern Nevada offers veterans a means of transportation to VA medical appointments at VA medical facilities who otherwise have no means of transportation.

Hours of operation:

Monday- Friday, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily

What information is needed?

Name, Last four digits of your social security number, the location of the clinic, the time and date of your appointment, as well as the veterans phone number.

As soon as you are notified of a VA medical appointment, contact the DAV dispatch office.

Additional Information:

  1. The DAV requires that someone accompanies those with memory impairment along with a letter of verification from their provider or social worker.
  2.  If the Veteran can not physically get on the vehicle unassisted, the driver is not authorized to take the Veteran to their appointment.  At this point, we'd recommend the commercial companies (provided on the right panel of this page) that could assistance the Veteran if they meet their specific criteria.
  3. All DAV drivers are volunteers without compensation for services they provide. The transportation program is a privilege, not a right.

Highly Rural Transportation Grants (HRTG)

Highly Rural Transportation Grants (HRTG) is a grant-based program that helps Veterans in highly rural areas travel to VA or VA-authorized health care facilities. This program provides grant funding to Veteran Service Organizations and State Veterans Service Agencies to provide transportation services in eligible counties.

Requirements: 

Highly Rural Transportation Grants (HRTG) provide transportation programs in counties with fewer than seven people per square mile. There is no cost to participate in the program for Veterans who live in an area where HRTG is available.

Las Vegas Veterans Transportation Services (VTS)

Operated by the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System, this program is designed to ensure that all qualifying veterans have access to care through convenient, safe, and reliable transportation.

VTS provides qualifying veterans with free transportation services to and/or from outpatient appointments at participating VA medical centers (VAMCs) in a multi-passenger van.

To coordinate your transportation:

Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) - Washoe County, Nevada

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County now offers reduced fares for public transportation to veterans residing in Washoe County. 

Who qualifies?

All military veterans with a driver's license, a state ID with veteran designation, or a DD form 214 will be qualified for reduced transportation fare.

Veterans may also qualify for an RTC Disabled ID card if they possess a VA card showing a service-connected disability.

Fares vary depending on the pass purchased.

VA Automobile Allowance and Adaptive Equipment

You may be able to get disability benefits if you have a disability that's related to your service (called a service-connected disability) and that includes at least one of the below conditions.

At least one of these must be true for you. You have:

  • Loss, or permanent loss of use, of 1 or both feet, or
  • Loss, or permanent loss of use, of 1 or both hands, or
  • Permanent decreased vision in both eyes: 20/200 vision or less in your better eye with glasses, or greater than 20/200 vision but with a visual field defect that has reduced your peripheral vision to 20 degrees or less in your better eye, or
  • A severe burn injury, or
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or
  • Ankylosis in 1 or both knees or hips (Note: This qualifies you for an adaptive-equipment grant only)

What kind of disability benefits can I get?

A one-time payment of not more than $21,058.69 to help you buy a specially equipped vehicle.

In some situations, one or more adaptive-equipment grants to change a vehicle so it has features like power steering, brakes, seats, windows, or lift equipment to help you get into and out of the vehicle.
