Welcome to the Team

August has been an exciting month as the Department welcomed two new program managers to the team: Rachel Jelenic and Tom McCourt.

Rachel Jelenic was hired as the new Healthcare Initiatives Program Manager for NDVS. Jelenic graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a degree in Public Health, and continued her education with certifications in Epidemiology and Public Health, Foundations. She is a familiar face at NDVS as she interned with the Department in May 2019 in support of the Departments Suicide Prevention effort. Deputy Director of Support Amy Garland stated, “Rachel’s energy and background in Public Health is a tremendous asset to us and the veterans we serve”. She is excited to be working for NDVS once more and is looking forward to connecting veterans to their healthcare benefits and services.

Tom McCourt was hired for the recently created position of Housing & Justice Reintegration Program Manager. Deputy Director of Operations Fred Wagar stated, “We’re extremely glad to have Tom aboard.  His professional experience is going to be extremely beneficial to our homeless, at-risk veterans as well as those reintegrating from the justice system.” McCourt previously worked for the Orion Group, where he specialized in areas including non-profit management, specialty court program operations, and business process improvement. He serves on several Nevada non-profit Boards, including The CASA Foundation, NAMI, and Improv For Life. A Philadelphia native, McCourt served in the USMC, USMCR, and Army National Guard. He attended the University Honors Program at Temple University and is highly motivated to be on board with the team at NDVS, working on behalf of Nevada’s service members, veterans, and military families.
